Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has refused to play down Roma’s title chances – after his team went eight points ahead of their title rivals.
Following Napoli’s win over Roma, the Turin-based club had an opportunity to extend their lead to ten points. However, Udinese secured a draw at the Juventus Stadium ending Juventus’ six-match winning run.
The Italian manager was quick to warn his side of any complacency as he ruled out Juventus’ comfort in the top of the table.
The former AC Milan manager is not new to title challenges having won the league with Juventus in last two seasons.
Juventus have dominated the league for last five seasons. Their former boss Antonio Conte won the league titles in each of his management years at the club.
Speaking with Sky Sports, Allegri said: “We gained a point on Roma, it had been a year that we hadn’t drawn.
“It didn’t have to be a draw, but it was, we’ll accept it.” , the three times Serie A winner continued.
The manager then went on to praise his resilient opponents for the day. “We faced an exquisite Udinese, they played a great match, we needed to do more in the second half.”
Meanwhile, he relishes the lead at the top of the table. However, he believes that the Italian League is yet to witness more twists and actions. “Eight points ahead is better than seven; it was, a set point not a match point.”, the Livorno-born manager conceded.
Juventus conceded a goal late into the first half as Duvan Zapata netted in for Udinese. However, Leonardo Bonucci’s header brought the Bianconeri back into the game.
With the draw, Juventus continue their unbeaten run as their last defeat dates back to January. Fiorentina beat the reigning Serie A champions at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
