Former Tottenham star believes Lukaku’s position as the main man for Manchester United could come under some threat following an imminent return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Zlatan was the top gun for United last year scoring 28 goals before an injury ended his season prematurely. The Swedish striker suffered from a career threatening knee injury back in April.
Manchester United went on to sign Romelu Lukaku in the summer for a record 70 million pounds from Everton.
In his absence, Lukaku has silenced all his critics by firing on all cylinders, scoring 10 goals in his first 9 games at United.
However, the striker has since experienced a dip in form being unable to conjure up a single goal since the end of September.
Happily for Jose Mourinho, his another star striker Zlatan looks set to return back to the field along with Paul Pogba.
Considering the Swedish striker’s competitiveness, David Ginola believes Lukaku will be on his heels as two strikers compete for their place in the starting lineup.
The former French international compared the fraction between Zlatan and Cavani at PSG to maintain his argument.
He said (h/t – Talksport) : “Zlatan is a player you put in the starting eleven. If not, leave him at home because he will not be helpful coming off the bench.”
The former French international continued: “It is going to be difficult the next few weeks. Let’s see how Mourinho manages the Zlatan-Lukaku situation”.
The selection between the duo is likely to be a welcome dilemma for Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese manager has faced a lack of options frequently this season – with injuries depleting his squad.
