Lionel Messi: I respect Ronaldo but we're not friends

Well, you wouldn’t expect the competitive duo to have friendship come between them anyway.

Lionel Messi
The world of football has plenty of stories this term. In Premier League, Pep Guardiola’s glory lore has continued with Manchester City while Neymar is scoring goals for fun at PSG.
Elsewhere, Napoli are on song leading the Serie A standings as they impose first real threat to Juventus’ crown for years.
However, one news that won’t change is the domination of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in world football.
The duo have already scored 25 goals between them this season. Majority of Messi’s goals have come in the league while Ronaldo has scored eight of his ten goals in the Champions League.
Given the fight for supremacy, it’s natural that the duo have a competitive edge towards each other.
Consequently, it’s no surprise Lionel Messi doesn’t think the Portuguese star is his friend.
Answering to one of Marca’s usual unadorned questions, Messi said: “I don’t know if we will be. Friendship is built through spending time together and getting to know each other.”
The Barcelona star then went on to elaborate his answer, citing limited time together as a reason for their lack of friendship.
He continued: “We have no relationship, mainly because we only see each other at awards ceremonies and that’s the only time we speak. Everything is fine, but our lives don’t cross over very often.”
It’s okay, Lionel. All we really expect from the two best footballers in the planet is pushing further for supremacy and keep us in awe.
